Our Life Stages Program & Individualized Vaccine Program
Our life stages approach to disease prevention and management will be discussed with you during each visit. Whether you are starting out with a new companion, or working to maintain the health of an aged one, we will design a program to meet your pet's individual needs. Your companion's annual check-up will include a discussion of a vaccine protocol that meets the needs of your individual pet. We feel that your companion's lifestyle, as well as his or her age, plays an important role in type and frequency of vaccines administered. We will also discuss the use of vaccine titers, which may be important in pets with underlying health concerns, or in older pets. After your visit with us, you will leave with your companion's health report card in hand, as well as clear directions as to what can be done to ensure your bond with your pet is strengthened and lengthened, our ultimate goal at Companions Animal Hospital.

Laboratory Diagnostic Program
Because our companions cannot speak and may not show symptoms until illness has progressed, we routinely perform laboratory diagnostics to better evaluate their health status. This is an integral part of our preventive program, our medical work-ups, and our pre-anesthetic testing. Our in-house clinical laboratory can provide immediate results in the face of an emergency, and when specialized or routine testing is required, we work with expert veterinary laboratories to obtain quick results.
Dental Program
Regular dental care has been shown to prevent periodontal disease and the possibility of more serious conditions of the liver, kidneys, and heart. We believe a short annual dental scaling and polishing is the best way to prevent the progression of dental disease, just as it is in people. Our dental equipment, advanced training, and the safest anesthesia and monitoring equipment, allows us to provide the best care for your companion.

Surgical and Anesthesia Services
The doctors are knowledgeable and experienced in surgical techniques and are prepared to handle your companion's needs. To ensure your companion's safety, we perform thorough pre-anesthetic testing. We use the safest anesthesia protocols and monitoring equipment and offer personalized recovery nursing with frequent progress reports. |
Pain Management Program
We believe the management of pain is a moral obligation, and prescribe the most effective forms of pain relief tailored specifically to your companion's needs. We address and treat surgery-associated pain, dental pain, orthopedic pain, and chronic pain. |
Imaging Services
When your companion is injured or requires x-rays or sonogram to help diagnose internal conditions, the services are performed here so that diagnosis and treatment can begin as quickly as possible. We utilize a board-certified radiologist, just as you would expect in a human hospital. |
Nutrition Counseling
We believe good nutrition plays a vital role in general health. We will discuss your pet's diet with you, as well as review recommendations for maintaining health and fitness. |
Behavior Counseling
Our doctors are available to consult with you about any behavioral and obedience concerns you may have. This is especially important with new puppy companions. A good portion of your initial puppy visits with us will review basic training guidelines which have been proven to be most effective with veterinary behaviorists. |
Complementary Medicine
If you are interested in alternative or complementary medicine options for your companion, we will counsel you on appropriate choices based on your pet's health issues. You will be educated in how different supplements are given and how they work. |
Senior Care
The doctors at Companions Animal Hospital recognize the special needs of our geriatric companions. Your visit will always begin with a thorough discussion of your senior pet's medical history, and any health issues you are concerned about at home. A comprehensive evaluation of your pet will be performed, and further discussions of findings, management, or treatment options will follow. With the recent advances in veterinary medicine, there is so much more that can be done to prevent, as well as manage, geriatric pet health problems. |
Hospice
When quality of life of a beloved companion begins to deteriorate, we will counsel you on all available options. If you and your family are not ready for humane euthanasia, we will discuss hospice options with you. Hospice is the care that is given to an animal when he or she has a terminal illness, where invasive treatment is no longer warranted or recommended. Our goal with hospice is for your pet to have the best quality of life possible, where he or she is eating and most importantly, not in pain. If the time comes for euthanasia, the doctors and staff will try to make the experience as peaceful as possible, both for you and for your pet. Our doctors and staff have experienced this with our own animal companions, and we are aware of the grief and sorrow that always accompanies the loss of a pet . You will have the option to be with your pet during the procedure, and will be welcomed to stay as long as you wish, before or after the euthanasia is completed. A clay paw print will be made for you by the staff, which many cherish for years to come. Final resting arrangements for your pet will also be discussed in detail with you. |
